Penn State football’s homecoming game will be a late one — the Sept. 28 game against Illinois will kick off at 7 or 7:30 p.m., the athletics department announced Monday. The game’s television designation has not been determined.

Penn State accomplished most of its goals, though injuries to linebacker Dom DeLuca and running back Cam Wallace stung. The Nittany Lions replaced their starters in the third quarter, gave meaningful reps to a significant number of players and paid Kent State $1.6 million for its troubles.

The game was previously reserved for one of the mid-day or primetime slots to be shared by broadcast partners CBS, NBC, Fox, and Big Ten Network. The primetime assignment rules out CBS as a broadcast option for Penn State’s game with Illinois.
