Welcome to the NFL, Drake Maye. With less than five minutes to play in the New England Patriots Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets and trailing 24-3, first-year head coach Jerod Mayo has sent veteran Jacoby Brissett to the bench and thrust his first-round rookie quarterback into the fold.

Jacoby Brissett got hit, harassed and frustrated all night by the New York Jets' swarming defense. Then the Patriots' veteran quarterback was pulled in favor of rookie Drake Maye, who made his NFL debut late in a lackluster 24-3 loss Thursday night.

The Drake Maye era in New England got off to an earlier start than many had anticipated. With the game against the Jets well out of reach, Maye made his NFL debut on Thursday night with just over four minutes left in what would end in a 24-3 win for the Jets at MetLife Stadium.
